⚠️ Laundry is NOT a priority - How Chores Set You Back
Share
I see Define My Day examples all of the time where users have priorities like:
"Do the dishes"
"Clean the house"
"Do the laundry"
Every time I see it I want to yell, "you're doing it wrong!!!"
Chores are absolutely, 100% NOT priorities.
Priorities move your life forward and are stepping stones toward goals. Laundry does not fundamentally improve your life.
Yes, clean clothing is an absolute necessity for living a healthy life. A life where people don't hold their noses and run to the other side of the street. Laundry may even rise to the level of a habit to be tracked on the disciplines page. It could appear on your to-do list too. But never should it be a recurring priority.
Add to this list:
Going to the doctor
Grocery shopping
Getting gas in the car
Taking the dog to the vet
Taking out the trash
Vacuuming
Dusting
All of these things are tasks that need to be done. Either by you AFTER the important things get done or during "low-priority" time. In an ideal situation, you'll be able to outsource some of it.
I would much rather you prioritize "taking a nap" as part of a self-care goal than see "laundry" on your priority page.
Try changing you perspective on this for a few weeks. Schedule all of these tasks (and more) when you have free time but keep them off of your priority list.
Look at your goals. Pick one and create a 15-30 minute priority to work on before anything else. Get it done and then start crossing off your chore list. Do this daily for three to four weeks. If you can do that consistently, email me back and let me know how you feel.
I bet your chores will still get done. You won't run out of undies. But you'll have made significant progress toward a goal.

I have a very hard time differentiating between chores and priorities because some chores ARE a big part of self care for me. I suffer with Major Depression, severe anxiety C-PTSD, and ADHD. A big part of taking care of myself includes doing my chores because I struggle so hard to get them done. I’m single so there isn’t anyone else to outsource them to. Nico, my adorable Cocker Spaniel doesn’t pick up after himself nor does he vacuum or sweep the floor after he’s done eating and he refuses to walk himself…the nerve! Lol. Seriously, though, DMD has been a big help with getting more of my chores done than before and I’m not beating myself up as much if I don’t get them all done in one day. Thank you for creating this amazing program.
